BLACK CANYON INN WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER

This Estes Park venue with two ceremony sites has been one of my favorites for over 20 years. The vistas of MacGregor Ranch and Lumpy Ridge will captivate your guests and provide a breathtaking backdrop for your vows!

MR BLUE SKY

Since 1930 and the opening of what’s now The Homestead lodge, Black Canyon Inn has been an Estes destination to get away from the city, gain access to Rocky Mountain Park from the Lumpy Ridge Trail, or just take in the panoramic skyscapes. At both The Homestead and the newer Boulders, cozy, intimate rooms open to large community spaces, which flow into inviting outdoor lawns & patios. When putting together portraits or group photos, we can quickly move from intimate and grand — with just a few steps.

ALL MY FRIENDS

I most often begin photography coverage two hours before your ceremony, and over the years at Black Canyon Inn weddings, I believe I photographed in or around every lodge on the property. The rooms are spacious with easy outdoor access, and I make the most of the spaces to document attire, flowers, and special details. You and your besties might want some fun getting-ready pics, singing a favorite song, doing shots, and dancing to the latest Spotify rave. I step outside for a moment of modesty while the dress is put on, then, after some time for dress-fitting, we begin documenting you and your wedding party, family, and VIPs.

THINGS WE SAID TODAY

During your ceremony, I try hard to stay out of everyone’s way and be as unobtrusive as possible. On my right shoulder is a camera with an extreme telephoto lens, which lets me capture emotion from a distance. Over the years, scores of wedding officiants have remarked, “I didn’t even know you were there.” I’m 6’2” and am wearing two cameras, so I can’t be totally invisible, but ninja moves come in handy during heartfelt Black Canyon Inn wedding ceremony moments. During our final photography prep meeting, I’ll get a listing of ceremony highlights so I’m prepared to capture those once-in-a-lifetime moments.

WHERE THE PARTY AT

After catching your breath and decompressing after the ceremony, I’ll gather the family, and we can document your favorite groups against a scenic background, expertly lit, with lots of laughs. Plan on 25 minutes during the cocktail hour for family groups, and (depending on how productive we were before the ceremony), you have the rest of the cocktail hour to mingle with all your important people. Cocktail hours are my favorite part of the wedding day, and I quietly buzz around catching candid images and any impromptu group photo requests.
