CHATFIELD FARMS WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER | LITTLETON

Located just off 470 at Wadsworth, Chatfield Farms is a 700-acre site managed by Denver Botanic Gardens along the historic Deer Creek. I have photographed many Chatfield Farms weddings, and this page features two of my favorites.

LESLIE + TIM | CHATFIELD FARMS WEDDING

Photographers love family referrals, and this date began with an inquiry from one of my favorite bride’s sisters. Leslie loved her sister’s wedding so much that she hired the same reception band, photographer, and florist, but moved her venue 3 miles to Chatfield. The girls got ready in the Deer Creek Schoolhouse (a perfect photo backdrop for a hanging wedding dress), and then everyone scuttled over to the Open Air Chapel for a ceremony filled with comical jabs between the couple. Clouds cooled the Summer air and evened out the light for me. Overcast skies allow colors in flowers and greenery pop more, so I salute the clouds when they roll in. The reception revelry lasted late into the evening at the Deer Creek Stables with rides in the Hora chair, a signing of the Katuba, and plenty of tributes to all the relatives who traveled far for this Colorado transplant couple’s vows.

MELISSA + RYAN

Picking a wedding venue that’s welcoming in any weather isn’t easy, and if you’re concerned about early Summer rains, know that Chatfield Farms has you covered (literally). The weather forecast was for all-day downpour, so everyone was thrilled when the clouds parted, at least through the ceremony. The girls got ready at the Polly Steele Nature Center and Cottage Garden, which is on-site and spacious for putting on dresses, finishing makeup, and casual family or bridal portraits. The couple requested I keep them separated until ceremony time, so after some photos with the girls, I hopped over to the guys’ yurt, which is sometimes air-conditioned. The cooler was broken that day, so the guys wanted to get out into the cloud-break quickly for some photos around the 1929 Ford Model A truck. Rather than wait for nature’s spitting to stop, the couple pressed on with the Open Air Chapel ceremony, which included some sandpouring. The jokes flew at the cocktail hour, but soon the rain was back, and it seemed to be on a 20-minute off-and-on cycle for the rest of the night. The Green Farm Barn is a nice spot to party in while it rains, but this night there’ll be no dancing on the patio.
