Cheyenne Wedding :: Horse Creek Cattle Company :: Morgan + Bobby
There was such a perfect cool Summer breeze all day during Morgan & Bobby’s family gathering. The staff at Horse Creek Cattle Company Wyoming are so chill, always with a smile and helpful ideas. The grounds are, well, the photos tell it all. Just when the dancing wound down, we had the most beautiful sunset which was the perfect backdrop for an instant photobooth on the patio. Step right up! The venue is such a secret — I don’t believe they even have a website. Worth the search though, just outside of Cheyenne. Mary Steinbacher referred me to the couple and added, “you won’t believe this place.” She was right.
Cheyenne Wedding :: Little America Wedding Reception :: Kelle & Korey
So here’s how K & K met. A story that reminds us that far-fetched Hollywood romance screenplays aren’t so far-fetched after all. A story that reminds us that in an instant you can meet the most life-changing person in the most unusual places. Kelle was a radio advertising salesperson. Korey, was also a radio advertising salesperson for the competing radio group on the other side of town. Two ruthless competitors out there scrapping for new clients in the uber competitive world of media ad sales. The both decide to call on the same bridal shop, and the same time, and meet … as economic enemies. Call casting! Julia Roberts plays Kelle, and I’m thinking Johnny Depp for Korey.
I never found out who actually landed the account, but Kelle’s ab fab dress actually came from that infamous bridal shop (wouldn’t anything else be bad luck?). What a fun day everyone had at Little America Cheyenne and Church Of Holy Trinity and all points between with the help of the Cheyenne Trolley. Kudos to MC Johnny Cruz and his usual over-the-top performance. He even got the right amount of Bluegrass mixed in to suit Kelle’s dad. Big fun.
Cheyenne Wedding Reception :: Train Depot :: Shelly + Shawn
A few years back, a gang of Minnesota boys made their annual snowmobiling/hunting trip to the small resort town of Saratoga, Wyoming. As fate would have it, a girl from Fort Collins was celebrating a girls weekend with old high school friends from Cheyenne at the famed Saratoga Inn. Those around claim it was sparks at first sight, and a long distance romance began.
One bright Summer morning, our couple married on the lawn of the Saratoga Inn. If you’ve never been, it’s a heaven for natural hot springs lovers. You can practice your Baineology in the 1940’s charm of the renovated inn with river rock pools, and heat-capturing tipi huts — or simply use the Inn as a launchpad to all the great outdoors Wyoming activities. The parking lot shows the diversity of pursuits. A compact SUV with muddy mountain bikes parks next to an oversized duelly pick-up with hood steers and gun rack.
Shelly took advantage of the onsite spa and hopped up early to be pampered, and to dress into her vintage dress and red leather shoes. The weather was a perfect 74 degrees when she came down the aisle with her Dad, ready to start life’s next chapter. Shawn’s family from Minnesota made this a family reunion and his brother even rented RV camper to make a giant Western odyssey. OK kids, load up in the camper because now we’re going to drive over the mountain pass and across the state to the reception!
Cheyenne’s Train Depot was ready for the 200+ guest reception which was casual, come-as-you-are affair catered by Girls Gone Gourmet. Father and Daughter had fun with the usual sentimental dance, instead rockin’ out to Chuck Berry’s “Teenage Wedding” which everyone remembers from Pulp Fiction. It was cupcakes and sing-a-long’s late into the night!

Cheyenne Wedding :: Plains Hotel Reception :: Jennifer + Benji
A Winter evening wedding in Cheyenne. First a some getting ready moments at the Plains Hotel whose rooms and spaces are so generous. Lots of breathing and elbow room. Then, over to St. Mary’s Cathedral on Capitol Avenue for the ceremony. It’s a majestic church, finished in 1909, is 135 feet high (!) and is finished in Wyoming sandstone. Anyone who’s attended Mass at St. Mary’s will surely mention the pipe organ. It’s massive, and is surprisingly a late addition, completed in 1992. Over 2,800 pipes celebrating his glory.
A moonlit sparkler exit out the church exit was planned, but I don’t think exploding sparklers were in anyone’s plans. One was lit, and it immediately lit the others in the bag. Poof! No groomsmen were hurt during this wedding moment. I practiced Rule #1 for a Cheyenne Wedding Photographer … keep shooting.
The Plains Hotel is such a great reception venue. Lots of downtown charm, well-maintained from its cattle and boom days from the early 20th century. It’s name goes back to when Cheyenne was called “The magic city on the plains.” Somebody once told me it’s haunted, by a honeymoon gone wrong. Among other odd signs, laughter can be heard in the hallways upstairs. The only laughter I heard on this particular night was in the Plains awesome reception room as the dancing when late into the night!

Cheyenne Wedding :: Terry Bison Ranch :: Jennifer + Adrian
Jennifer & Adrian had planned for an outdoor ceremony, but 30 hours before wedding day, a nice 12-inch dump paralyzed the Terry Bison Ranch. The couple were so pumped for the event there was a “weather? what weather?” fun vibe throughout the day. Jennifer & Adrian like their friends to laugh … as in mouth open laugh hard.
It was a casual dress code for the guests. Y’know, it’s Wyoming. Jennifer & Adrian for just letting me be myself and blending in to get the photos. Easily one of my favorite weddings, ever. Jennifer had been practicing her bouquet throw but misjudged the wagon wheel above. Somebody get a ladder! And Adam, that cake icing on my wide-angle lens will come off, no problem!
