Kelly & Mac | Telluride Wedding Photography | Gorrano Ranch

Telluride — the first city in the world to have electric street lights, yet there isn’t a traffic stoplight anywhere in sight. The only North American city with a free gondola used as mass public transit. The highest dog-per-human ratio in the world (that’s not verified – need to check). Less pretentious than Aspen or Vail, Telluride attracts the rugged among us. Wildflowers, mountain bikes, hiking, jeeping, and bluegrass. It’s a perfect place for … well, anything really.

Kelly & Mac met while undergrads at Bucknell, then moved apart while Kelly when to medical school and Mac studied law. A classic East v. West encounter. Kelly from the laid-back West, Mac from proper East. Love endures, and family & friends (and dog Zoe) gathered in Telluride a few years later for mountain wedding to charm all. What a destination wedding location! Mountain Lodge at Telluride hosted the rehersal day-before party with a fun bluegrass band and poolside scenery. Then on wedding day, everyone was transported via four wheel drive buses up to Goranno Ranch on the slopes of Telluride Ski Resort. Most of the flatlanders adjusted to the altitude well (keep drinking water) as there was such a dance party at 11,000 feet! Dale of AikoAikoSound of Durango had the moonlit music going ~ at one point I was convince he couldn’t play a wrong song. Good times, good times.

July through September are the best months for wedding planning in the San Juan Mountains. The snow has melted and the columbine are in bloom. Pick a weekend away from one of the major festivals and your guests will find easy lodging and won’t have to wait in line for the gondola. If you’re planning a Telluride wedding, I’d be honored to document it. Please click on the camera below to see if I’m available on your day.
