Melyssa + Daniel | Holy Ghost Church Denver Wedding | Kevin Taylors Opera House Wedding Reception
A Scot meets a beautiful Spanish girl during his conversion to Catholicism. They fall in love and exchange nuptual vows in a historic stone church during a Latin Mass, said by a Bishop. Whoa! A million thanks to M+D for entrusting me to document their historic day — there hasn’t been a wedding exactly like this in Denver since the 1940s!
Three Hundred Tons of Colorado colorcreme travertine line the walls and columns of Holy Ghost Church in Denver, a cherished parish in the heart of downtown with a long link to the storied Bonfils family who built The Denver Post into one of the largest newspapers in America. In memory of her parents, Helen Bonfils made a large endowment to Holy Ghost and the present church was completed in World War II. On this day, the nuptual vows were witnessed by His Excellency Bishop James Conley (of Lincoln), with Father James Jackson (of Mount Carmel Parish Littleton) presiding as Master Of Ceremonies. Father Jackson also proudly goes on record as the couple’s matchmaker. The choir’s contribution was beyond words, under the direction of Rick Wheeler (also of Mount Carmel).
Restaurant Kevin Taylor’s at the Opera House in the DCPA hosted this warm & elegant reception. The bagpiper signed the couple’s entrance and the evening was steep in Scottish humor as over a dozen of Daniel’s extended relatives made the journey to witness the day. This reception venue has distinct his and her’s lounge/retreats which husband and groom seperately decorated. His in old family photos/memorabilia, hers with a giant candy table!
