Jenni + Aaron | Rocky Mountain National Park Wedding
After 20+ years of living in Colorado, there are still days here that can take my breath away. The skies above Upper Beaver Meadows on J+A’s August intimate wedding were so painterly, they simply didn’t look real. A clearly storm cleaned the air and mountain tops miles away were in clear view. No haze, and a light moist breeze kept the clouds dancing. Aaron grew up in Denver and the Iowa couple couldn’t decide which state to hold the wedding in, so they reached a compromise. Ceremony in Colorado, reception in Iowa. Today’s photo coverage will just cover the intimate wedding ceremony for just immediate family.
I arrived at Jenni’s cabin to catch a couple of hands of bohemian poker. Grandma brought the game from the old country and clearly runs the table. After some serious wagering with Honey Nut Cheerios, Jenni took me upstairs to show her surprise for Aaron — a pair of Chuck Taylor sneakers to wear at the ceremony. It seems Aaron only wears Chucks. “He’d sleep in them if I’d let him.” So her surprise foot ware was part teasing and part show of solidarity.
Family assembled at the trailhead and brief words were spoken about the meaning of marriage. Rings were passed around to all to view and bless. Vows were exchanged and champagne toasts were offered up. I then stole the couple for some solo time for portraits around the park.
The reception’s in a couple of weeks back in Iowa, complete with a slideshow of the Rocky Mountain National Park wedding … and (I’m guessing) a few more hands of grandma’s poker.
