And then … my nephew got married
Californos Kansas City Wedding | Aubrey + Adam
For hundreds of weddings, I’ve peered down the viewfinder documenting other people’s families — imagine how unusual it was to finally photograph one in my own herd. As you can imagine, there was a constant desire to just put the cameras down and join the fun. Thankfully when that desire won over, my daughter Helen and son Cole were there to make up gaps in the coverage (thanks kids).
A + A met while working out their love for cycling so a light 2-wheel theme emerged in the invitations, cake, etc. Californos is a fun wedding venue, just steps away from the famous Kansas City intersection of Pennsylvania and Westport. Here, it’s said, Kansas City began (or, at least the drinking part began). It was fun to wander around the old brick stands taking in the Autumn air. We ventured out a bit in midtown, spending some quality photo time at KC favorites Plaza fountain and Nelson-Atkins Art Museum.
Towards the end of the dancing, Adam’s friends went a little overboard with Journey’s Don’t Stop Believin’ (which is more popular as a wedding reception song than it ever was back in the day). Whoa! Don’t worry, Westport tells no tales.
